UI professor named to national employment policy team

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa College of Law professor Peter Blanck has been named one of four principal researchers nationwide who will examine federal and state employment policies affecting persons with disabilities.

Blanck, who heads the College's Health Policy and Disability Center, and researchers from George Washington and Rutgers University will collaborate to revise and create new approaches to current workforce development and employment policies.

The researchers will conduct their work through the newly created Rehabilitation Research and Training Center and will be joined by leading experts in government, business and persons with disabilities. The Washington-D.C.-based Center will also serve as an information and technical assistance resource to federal and state government officials and to disabled persons and their families.

The center was created by a $2.25 million five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research and is a part of Community Options, a national, nonprofit organization that develops housing and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
