UI College of Medicine professor appointed to professorship
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Robert A. Robinson, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pathology
in the University of Iowa College of Medicine, has been appointed to the
newly endowed Frederic W. Stamler Professorship in Anatomical Pathology.
The five-year appointment was effective Feb. 12.
The professorship honors the long-standing dedication and service of
Frederic W. Stamler, M.D., UI professor emeritus of pathology. Stamler
was a diagnostic pathologist, teacher and faculty member in the department
for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1989.
The professorship was endowed by private gifts made through the UI Foundation
by Stamler's family, friends, colleagues and former trainees.
Robinson is director of anatomic pathology and surgical pathology at
the UI. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in molecular genetic
applications in surgical pathology, particularly the analysis of tumor-causing
genes to diagnose malignant tumors.
Robinson earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri at
Kansas City and his doctorate at the University of Minnesota Mayo Medical
School. Following his residency training in pathology at the Mayo Clinic,
he joined the UI College of Medicine in 1982.
