UI Iowa Summer Rep holds March 6-7 auditions for August Wilson festival

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa department of theatre arts will hold March 6-7 auditions for Iowa Summer Rep '99, which will feature three plays by August Wilson. Initial auditions will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday, March 6 in the UI Theatre Building. Callbacks will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, March 7.

Roles are available for African-American men and women and white men of all ages. The auditions are open to the public; no affiliation with the department of theatre arts or the UI is required.

Auditioners should come prepared with a contemporary monologue, around two minutes in length, and should also be prepared to read from scripts. Auditioners who are able to sing should be prepared to do so.

Plays that will be produced are "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," "Fences" and "Joe Turner's Come and Gone." Performances are scheduled from June 23 through July 24. Rehearsals will begin May 24 and will be held during daytime and evening hours.
