Fifth Annual UI Dance Marathon Feb. 5-6 at Iowa Memorial Union

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- On Feb. 5 and 6, approximately 700 students and 500 volunteers will take part in the University of Iowa's Fifth Annual Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy event in Iowa.

The Dance Marathon begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 and continues through 11p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Main Lounge at the Iowa Memorial Union at the UI.

The UI Dance Marathon is a student-run organization established in 1994 to aid the Children's Hospital of Iowa at the UI Hospitals and Clinics. Dance Marathon works to bring financial support to families through special projects served by the Pediatric Oncology Unit and to enhance the lives of children facing cancer.

In its first four years of existence at the UI, Dance Marathon has raised more than $425,000. Dance Marathon raises money through dancer pledges, corporate sponsorships, and free will donations.

It is supported by the UI student government, plus groups from residence halls, the Greek community, and student athletics. Graduate and undergraduate students, as well as faculty and staff also participate with support from thousands of donors.

For more information, contact Kjirsten Smith, UI Dance Marathon public relations director, 145 Iowa Memorial Union, (319) 353-2094.
