International Education Office leading African safari Aug. 1-14, 2000

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The International Education Office at the University of Iowa College of Education is sponsoring an African safari Aug. 1-14, 2000, for educators, students and the public.

Paul Retish, director of the International Education Office, said registration is limited to 15 people and only a few slots remain open. However, if enough people show interest in the next week or two, he said it’s possible arrangements could be made for a second group.

The tour, which will include visits to African schools in Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa, is designed primarily to help educators improve their curricula and better teach students about the country. Up to eight semester hours of college credit can be earned and financial aid is available to eligible UI students. Other activities will include nature and large-animal viewing, bird watching, sightseeing and photo opportunities.

The cost of the trip, which includes airfare, is $4,600. A $500 deposit is required.

For more information or to make a reservation, visit the International Education Office, N297 Lindquist Center, or call (319) 335-6289.
