NPR radio host Linda Wertheimer will give free, public
lecture Aug. 31 at UI
IOWA CITY, Iowa --
National Public Radio (NPR) host Linda Wertheimer kicks off the University
of Iowa Lecture Series' lineup of guest speakers at a free and public lecture
at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31 at the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial
The veteran radio news personality will discuss her
experiences covering campaigns and elections, commenting on their impact on
society, and society's involvement in the process.
Wertheimer has worked in radio broadcasting for more
than 25 years, and the award-winning journalist has been a co-host on the
NPR's popular "All Things Considered" newsmagazine program since 1989, reporting
on various national political topics and presidential elections.
Wertheimer's visit is part of Weeks of Welcome! 99,
a two-week welcoming program of events, lectures, and other festivities held
for new and returning students to the UI. WOW! 99 is sponsored by the Office
of Student Life and ends Sept. 4.
The UI's Lecture Series committee, the Offices of
Leadership, Education and Development, Admissions, and Vice President for
Student Services along with Department of Resident Services and Orientation
Services are sponsoring the lecture.
