UI College of Law hosts new student orientation

IOWA CITY, Iowa —The University of Iowa College of Law will hold its sixth annual summer orientation session for first year students Monday, Aug. 16-23.

The goal is to present students with three different facets of law school life: academic, professional, extracurricular, and social aspects, said Linda McGuire, dean of students in the College of Law.

The Honorable David Harris, former Iowa Supreme Court Justice, C. Joseph Holland, vice president, Iowa State Bar Association, and N. William Hines, dean of the College of Law, will give welcoming remarks to students.

Students will take a non-credit Introduction to Law class throughout the week. The class introduces students to methods used in legal education, the Anglo-American legal system, different theoretical perspectives of law, and special skills necessary for success as a law student.

The week will also consist of nine seminars, varying from how students can finance their education to the technological offerings of the College of Law. Other activities include a cookout for students, their families, faculty, and staff, and an activity fair showing the various extra-curricular and co-curricular programs available for law students.
