UI Public Safety officer completes Iowa Law Enforcement
IOWA CITY, Iowa Officer Derek Drish of the
University of Iowa department of public safety completed training through
the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy earlier this month. He was a member of the
168th Basic School that was conducted Jan. 18 through April 9 at
Camp Dodge in Johnston.
The Law Enforcement Academy training is a 12-week
program that includes instruction in procedures related to arrests, criminal
investigations, search and seizure, traffic control, use of force, and dealing
with drunken drivers. All law enforcement officers in the state of Iowa are
required to complete the training program before they can assume their duties
on a permanent basis.
In addition to the Academys training program,
Drish also completed a four-month field officer training program required
by the UI department of public safety.
