UI Public Safety officer completes Iowa Law Enforcement Academy training

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Officer Derek Drish of the University of Iowa department of public safety completed training through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy earlier this month. He was a member of the 168th Basic School that was conducted Jan. 18 through April 9 at Camp Dodge in Johnston.

The Law Enforcement Academy training is a 12-week program that includes instruction in procedures related to arrests, criminal investigations, search and seizure, traffic control, use of force, and dealing with drunken drivers. All law enforcement officers in the state of Iowa are required to complete the training program before they can assume their duties on a permanent basis.

In addition to the Academy’s training program, Drish also completed a four-month field officer training program required by the UI department of public safety.
