UI career adviser wins Washington Center Liaison Award

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- David Fitzgerald, a senior career adviser in Career Development Services at the University of Iowa, recently received the 1999 Liaison of the Year Award from the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars.

Fitzgerald was recognized for his efforts to coordinate internships in Washington D.C. for UI students and his professional involvement with Washington Center programs. He serves on the Center's Liaison Advisory Board, a group of university representatives who provide input on the Center's operations and programs.

Fitzgerald has worked in Career Development Services for 11 years and has been a liaison with the center for eight years. The UI has had a relationship with the center for about 20 years; approximately 450 UI students have been placed in for-credit internship programs at governmental agencies, congressional offices, law firms, non-profit agencies, and news bureaus.

"Dave has been a very important factor in the advancement of this program through his efforts to make UI students and faculty aware of these internships. It's a well-deserved honor," said Phillip E. Jones, UI vice president for student services.

The Center honored Fitzgerald at its 1999 Honor Roll Scholarship Awards March 24 in Washington D.C., where leading internship programs, agency supervisors and academic lecturers were recognized

Founded in 1975, the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars has provided over 24,000 students with a comprehensive, participatory learning experience in Washington, D.C.
