Union Programming Board presents "drive-in" movie, comedy and jazz

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Union Programming Board is presenting a full slate of entertainment this week featuring smooth jazz, an improvisational comedy hootenanny, and a tearjerker movie romance on a "Titanic" size outdoor screen.

The following is the schedule of events:

-- The Vanguard Jazz Collective will be performing at the Iowa Memorial Union Wheel Room Thursday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. The jazz band entertains at the IMU on the first and third Thursday of every month. Food and drinks will be available.

-- An Improvisational Hootenanny is set for Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. at the IMU Wheel Room. Indiana University's premier improvisational comedy troupe, Full Frontal Comedy, will team up with Iowa City's own IC Improv for two free shows.

-- The Great College Drive-In Movie will be the box-office smash "Titanic" showing 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Hubbard Park next to the IMU. The romantic tear-jerker featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet will be shown on a 300-sq.-ft. screen, with sound delivered on surround-sound speakers. There will be food and drinks available to emulate the true drive-in experience. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets -- you can't drive on the Hubbard Park lawn during the showing. Parking is available in the IMU ramp. Rain location is the IMU Main Lounge.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life at 335-3059 or the Union Programming Board at 335-2719.
