UI hosts Sept. 18 talk on development in Nicaragua

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa will sponsor a 3:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18 seminar, "Small and Medium Enterprise Development in Nicaragua: Science, Technology, and Economy," in Room 104 of the Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories (IATL) Building.

The speaker, Ricardo Alvarado, is the director of Nicaragua's National Program to Support Small Businesses. According to Pedro Alvarez, UI associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and associate director of the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing, the talk is particularly appropriate following the recent signing of a letter of intent between the UI and the government of Nicaragua to collaborate in areas related to pollution prevention and remediation. The seminar is being sponsored by the UI College of Engineering department of civil and environmental engineering, the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing and the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research.

The talk is free and open to the public. For further information, call Pedro Alvarez at |319-335-5065.
