Second annual bike fair offers prizes, information on maintenance, etiquette

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A new bicycle giveaway will highlight the second annual University of Iowa Bike Fair Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Hubbard Field, across from the Iowa Memorial Union. The event will also feature an obstacle course and information on bicycle etiquette, maintenance, and local bike trails.

Currently registered UI students may sign up to win a Giant Yukon bicycle. Free soft drinks and popcorn will be available and additional prizes donated by local bicycle shops will be given away throughout the event.

Iowa City Radio Station KCJJ will broadcast live from Hubbard Field during the fair.

The goal of the fair is to help bicyclists on the UI campus become better acquainted with bike safety and etiquette issues. Free bicycle registration will be offered; local bike shops provide advice on bikes and bike maintenance, and local bicycle clubs will offer information on bike routes, trails, and bike rides.

The Bike Fair is sponsored by the UI departments of public safety and parking and transportation.
