IWP PANEL DISCUSSION SERIES SEPT. 9 -- The University of Iowa International
Writing Program will present a panel discussion titled "Book and Powerbook:
Writing and Technology" at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9 in the English/Philosophy
building on the UI campus. The discussion is free and open to the public.
The panel, which is comprised of four writers from four countries, will
examine how new technology has mediated communication, yet also created
isolation across cultures. They will explore technology's impact on contemporary
writing, the fragmentation and recombination of genres (hypertext, computer-generated
poetry), and ways in which composing on the word processor has altered
the quality, texture, length and other characteristics of the literary
Panel members will be Anastasia Sergeyevna Gosteva of Russia, Emil Zopfi
of Switzerland, Phan Trieu Hai of Vietnam and Andras Petocz of Hungary.
The IWP is a unique residency program, which each fall assembles a community
of established writers from all parts of the globe. This fall 19 writers
from 18 countries will spend three months at the UI.
