Public is invited to participate in prairie management at Macbride Nature Recreation Area

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa Recreation Services is inviting the public to participate in a prairie management program at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area (MNRA) Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.

Participants will learn how to identify native prairie grasses and flowers, collect seed, observe a prairie burn (weather permitting), and then scatter the collected seed on the burned area. MNRA is located on County Road F-28 between North Liberty and Solon.

The program will be at the reconstructed prairie located near the Bluestem Shelter. Bring work gloves, a paper sack for collecting seeds, and a rake to work the seeds into the burned area.

The MNRA is a 480-acre tract of land leased from the Army Corps of Engineers by the UI. It is under the direction of the Division of Recreational Services. For more information, contact Dave Conrads, UI Division of Recreational Services at 335-9289.
