B.J. Armstrong, former UI basketball, NBA standout, is homecoming guest at UI

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- B.J. Armstrong, former University of Iowa Hawkeye basketball standout and NBA All-Star, will serve as Grand Marshall at this year's UI Homecoming parade to take place in downtown Iowa City at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.

Armstrong, who will be accompanied by his wife, Jennifer, will speak at a pep rally at the UI Pentacrest immediately following the parade.

Benjamin Armstrong Jr., affectionately called "B.J.," was drafted as the 18th overall pick in 1989 by Chicago, where he earned three National Basketball Association Championship rings during his four seasons with the Chicago Bulls.

Armstrong has played as a point-guard with the Charlotte Hornets since the 1997-98 season.

In 1995 he was the first player chosen in the NBA Expansion Draft and was selected by the Toronto Raptors, who subsequently traded him to the Golden State Warriors. Armstrong played two seasons with the Warriors.
