Keeping Our Kids Healthy And Safe
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Families and professionals who are concerned about
rising levels of violence among our children are invited to attend a telecast,
"Bright Futures for Families Keeping Our Kids Healthy and Safe,"
on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in Room 338, University Hospital School, on
the UI campus in Iowa City. The event is free and open to the public; light
refreshments will be served.
Offered by the National Parent Consortium on Maternal and Child Health
as part of National Child Health Month, "Bright Futures" is directed
to parents and to professionals who work directly with families. Teleconference
participants discuss skills that parents and others can use to prevent
violence, such as conflict resolution, after school supervision, discussing
media violence with children, and preventing substance abuse.
Members of the National Parent Consortium on Maternal and Child Health
include the National Parent Network on Disabilities, HeadStart Resource
and Training Center, National Family for the Advancement of Minorities
with Disabilities, Institute for Family-centered Care, ACCH Parent Network,
and the Family Resource Coalition.
