UI College of Education department sponsoring 13-day tour of Alaska in summer 1999

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The International Education Office at the University of Iowa College of Education is sponsoring a summer study program and tour of Alaska June 13­26 for educators, students and any interested persons.

The educational trip to Anchorage, Fairbanks, Seward, Homer, Soldotna, Kenai, Kasilof, Halibut Cove, and Denali National Park is co-sponsored by the North Spirit Educational Institute, an Alaska-based educational office.

During the 13-day tour, participants will visit state and university museums, fisheries, and take part in other recreational activities such as whitewater rafting. The tour is designed to help educators improve their curriculum and better teach students about the state as well as offer fun nature activities.

Tour registration, which is limited to 32 persons, ends in mid-January. Up to eight semester hours of college credit can be earned and financial aid is available to eligible UI students. The cost is $3,200 per person and includes roundtrip airfare from Cedar Rapids to Anchorage, lodging, meals, tour ground transportation, and fees to all events and sites. Payments may be made in installments.
