Century-old handcrafted books on exhibit at UI's special collection department

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- From now through January the special collections department at the University of Iowa Main Library is exhibiting handcrafted and bound books from the 19th century, including a title from a notable poet.

The exhibit, Fine Press Books from the End of the Century: Britain and America, showcases poet John Keats' "The Eve of St. Agnes," published in 1896. The bound work is one of only 65 copies printed on handmade paper.

More than 25 authors' works, including those by Edgar Allan Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson, William Morris, and Hamlin Garland, are on display at the special collections department located on the Main Library's third floor.

The exhibition, free and open to the public, can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
