"Working Effectively with Volunteers" workshop to be Nov. 16

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- People who work with volunteers may wish to participate in a workshop offered as part of the University of Iowa Women's Resource and Action Center Social Change Training Seminar series. "Working Effectively with Volunteers" will be Monday, Nov. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Coralville Public Library, 1401 5th Street in Coralville.

Workshop participants will learn about recruiting, training and retaining volunteers; recognizing volunteers for their efforts; trends in volunteerism; and liability issues. Aspects of the management of volunteers will also be discussed, including advertising, interviewing, job descriptions, scheduling, and recordkeeping.

For more information or to register for the workshop, call the Women's Center at (319) 335-1486. The seminar will be led by Sally Stutsman, a member of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. Stutsman also served as director of the Johnson County Volunteer Action Center.

The WRAC Social Change Training Program provides seminars that teach practical skills to use in progressive social change work. This seminar is co-sponsored by the Women's Resource and Action Center, Iowa City Public Access Television (PATV) and the Evert Conner Rights and Resources Center for Independent Living. There is a suggested $10 donation to attend the workshop; scholarships are available.
