'Diabetes Update 1998' scheduled for May 30
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa College of Medicine and the
UI department of internal medicine will host a conference on current diagnostic
and therapeutic issues related to Type I and Type II diabetes on Saturday,
May 30 at the Clarion/Hampton Inn in Coralville.
"Diabetes Update 1998: Risk Management for People with Diabetes
and People at Risk for Diabetes" is open to people with the disease,
their families and the public. Conference participants will learn more
about the meaning and definition of diabetes, early signs of diabetic complications,
and new developments in diabetes treatments.
Participants will have the opportunity to have their cholesterol, triglycerides
and blood sugar levels tested and discuss the results in a workshop for
$4. Other diabetes-related workshops will address foot care, nutrition,
impaired glucose tolerance and exercise regimens for people with diabetes.
The $25 registration fee includes handouts, a continental breakfast
Pre-registration is recommended. The blood test fee can be sent in
early with the registration fee or can be paid the day of the conference.
