Matt Henderson joins athletics' fund-raising staff

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Matt Henderson of Iowa City has joined the University of Iowa Foundation staff in the new position of assistant director of athletics development/I-Club events and activities. Henderson was formerly assistant director in the University of Iowa's sports marketing office, department of intercollegiate athletics.

"In addition to his knowledge of Iowa intercollegiate athletics, Matt brings extensive experience in sports marketing and advertising, corporate sponsorships, special events planning, publicity and media relations," says Mark Jennings, the foundation's director of development for intercollegiate athletics. "Our other development officers--Andy Piro, associate director of development for the men's athletic program, and Jana Egeland, assistant director of development for the women's athletic program--are looking forward to working with Matt on a variety of events and fund-raising projects."

Born and raised in Cedar Falls, Henderson graduated from the UI in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. A student internship in UI Women's Sports Information sparked his interest in college sports administration. After graduation Henderson became assistant sports information director at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Later, he worked as marketing and public relations coordinator for South Alabama's conference activities/continuing education program. He also directed the school's summer sports, music and computer camps.

While at the University of South Alabama, Henderson earned a master's degree in recreation/sports administration.

In 1994 he returned to his alma mater as assistant director in the Sports Marketing Office, where he worked until joining the UI Foundation staff this spring.

The University of Iowa Foundation, the channel for private contributions to athletics and all areas of the UI, works with alumni and friends to encourage support for student scholarships, facilities improvements, faculty development, and research funds in departments and programs across campus.
