Registration under way for UI Wildlife Camps' environmental education program

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Registration is under way for the University of Iowa Wildlife Camps' summer environmental education program. Camps are organized by grade level:

*Grade 1 Fledgling Camp, Session 1, June 9-12; Session 2, June 29-July 2;

*Grades 2-5 Hawk, Otter, Falcon, and Eagle camps, Week 1, June 15-19; Week 2, June 22-26; Week 3, July 6-10; Week 4, July 13-16; Week 5, July 20-24; Week 6, July 27-31; and

*Grades 6-8 Owl camp, with the same dates as the Hawk, Otter, Falcon, and Eagle camps.

The UI Wildlife Camps introduce area youth to the beauty and diversity of nature through hands-on experience. The camps' ultimate goal is to provide each camper with a sound environmental ethic and an informed and conscientious concern for things wild. Camp lessons and activities utilize the MacBride Natural Recreation Area as well as other local areas of ecological significance.

Camp registration will be available until the first day of the camps or until sessions are filled. Registration forms were distributed to area grade schools. They are also available through the Divison of Recreational Services at the UI Fieldhouse, 335-9293, and on the Recreational Services Home Page, www.\~fusrs.
