March 28 celebration and dance will mark end of International Women's
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The observance of International Women's Month on
the University of Iowa campus will culminate Saturday, March 28 with a
celebration and dance in the Wheelroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. The
event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The evening's entertainment will feature a performance by actress/story-teller
Nancy Duncan, readings by UI students Rita Rawson, Junko Kobayashi and
Katie Geha, and dance music provided by Orinoco, a band of Venezuelan students.
Elizabeth Swanson, UI associate dean of International Programs, will provide
brief comments to open the event.
Co-sponsors of the celebration and dance include the Women's Resource
and Action Center, Association of University Women, Council on the Status
of Women, Women in Computer Science, Women in Science and Engineering,
the Latino-Native American Cultural Center, the Afro-American Cultural
Center, and International Programs.
