Hollins named director of UI Design & Construction Services

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- George M. Hollins has been named the new director of Design & Construction Services at the University of Iowa. In his new position, Hollins will be responsible for administering the design and construction of university capital projects including new buildings, remodeling, utilities, landscaping, and road projects. He will assume his new duties April 1. Design & Construction Services is a unit of the UI Facilities Services Group (FSG). Hollins is currently assistant director for Project Management with FSG. He previously held positions in the UI Business Office and the State Board of Regents office in Des Moines.

Hollins replaces J. Ed Hawks, who retires March 31. Hawks has served as director of the Design & Construction Services (previously Architectural/Engineering Services) since October 1987. Among the projects planned and constructed during his tenure are the Iowa Advanced Technologies Laboratories, the Pappajohn Business Administration Building, the Levitt Center for University Advancement, the campus fiber optic network, the Richard O. Jacobson Athletic Building, the Pharmacy Building addition, and the Schaeffer Hall renovation.
