UI Women's Center offers training in public communication skills
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Speak Up, Speak Out" is the latest presentation
in the "Social Change Training" series sponsored by the Women's
Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa. The seminar
will be offered Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UI Community
Credit Union on Mormon Trek Boulevard in Iowa City.
Designed to cover basic skills to help activists become more comfortable
and effective public speakers - whether at a board meeting, a city council
meeting, or a political rally - the seminar's topics will include organizing
thoughts, audience analysis and developing performance skills. Participants
will practice those skills in workshop sessions.
Facilitators for the seminar are Joan Faber McAlister and Laurie Haag,
both graduate students in the UI department of communication studies, who
have taught numerous communication courses at the UI and other institutions.
The workshop is open to the public. A $10 donation is requested, and
some scholarships are available. To register, call WRAC at (319) 335-1486
by March 6.
The seminar is co-sponsored by UI Student Government.
