UI Ethics Seminar focuses on asylum and immigration Friday, March 6

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Two University of Iowa law professors will discuss current issues surrounding asylum and immigration laws from noon to 1:15 p.m. Friday, March 6 as part of the ongoing Ethics Seminar of the Project on the Rhetoric of Inquiry (POROI), the College of Business Administration, and International Programs.

Marcella David, associate professor of law, and Barbara A. Schwartz, clinical professor of law, will present "Closing the Doors: Ethical Issues in Asylum and Immigration Law" in Room W401 of the Pappajohn Business Administration Building.

The session is free and open to the public. The seminar format includes brief presentations by invited speakers followed by questions from the audience.

David will discuss the emerging use of gender discrimination as a form of human rights violation that can be argued in asylum claims. Schwartz will discuss the political debates underlying the more controversial aspects of recent changes in U.S. immigration law.
