WRAC repeats seminar on 'Culturally Competent Organizing'

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Culturally Competent Organizing," a popular seminar offered by the University of Iowa Women's Resource and Action Center, will be repeated Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 217 Iowa Ave., Iowa City.

The seminar is designed to increase participants' ability to respond effectively to cultural differences when organizing for social, economic and political justice. Trainers are Salome Raheim, associate professor in the UI School of Social Work, and Diane Finnerty of the UI Office of Affirmative Action.

The objectives of the seminar are to provide an opportunity for participants to evaluate their own cross-cultural competence, to increase the understanding of the knowledge and values required to work effectively in cross-cultural groups, and to provide specific tools that will assist in cross-cultural work by addressing the subtle and blatant barriers to building community.

The seminar is open to the public. There is $10 fee, but some scholarships are available. For information or to register, call WRAC at (319) 335-1486.
