Workshop to discuss legal aspects of domestic partnerships June 23
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Legal concerns for unmarried couples are the topic
of a workshop set for Tuesday, June 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Meeting
Room A of the Iowa City Public Library and sponsored by the University
of Iowa Women's Resource and Action Center.
"Legal Aspects of Domestic Partnerships" is presented in conjunction
with Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Month.
Pat Cain, UI professor of law, will facilitate the workshop, focusing
on such topics as alternatives for estate planning, state inheritance taxes
and federal estate taxes; powers of attorney for property management in
the event of disability and for health care, and domestic partnership and
joint ownership agreements.
The workshop is part of WRAC's ongoing "Women and Money" workshop
series. Co-sponsors are the Iowa Women's Foundation, Johnson County Extension
Service, Focus Forward, and the Iowa City Senior Center.
This workshop is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
