UI Foundation publications win awards

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Fund-raising publications produced by the University of Iowa Foundation communications staff have received six national awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) of Washington, D.C., and nine awards from the Cedar Rapids Advertising Federation in recent months.

The UI Foundation's 1998 Hawkeye Fund flyer for the Department of Athletics was awarded a gold medal, and the brochure for the UI College of Medicine capital campaign won a bronze award in the visual design category. Materials produced for the UI College of Medicine's Endowed Chair in Rural Medicine/Family Practice won a silver medal for fund-raising packages.

A brochure for the athletic department's Hawkeye Visions endowment program won a silver medal, and the UI College of Nursing Centennial Campaign brochure won a bronze medal for individual fund-raising publications. In addition, the Foundation's newsletter, Bridges, was awarded a bronze medal for external newsletters.

The CASE recognition program honors outstanding work of the 2,900 colleges, universities, and independent schools that are CASE members. Each year, CASE receives more than 4,000 entries for its national publications awards program.

Among the UI Foundation publications selected by the Cedar Rapids Advertising Federation for 1998 "Addy" awards were DIVIDENDS, the Foundation's periodical about trends in financial planning and charitable giving, the Foundation's 1996 Annual Report on Giving, and campaign materials for the UI College of Medicine.

Foundation Vice President for Communications and Administration Alan Swanson announced that the following communications staff members produced the award-winning publications: Susan Shullaw, Claudia Reinhardt, Becky Soglin, Heather Woodin, Rose Garfinkle, Danette Angerer, Richard Blazek, Connie Driscoll-Wicke, and Jon Van Allen.

The UI Foundation is the preferred channel of support for private contributions to all areas of the UI. Foundation staff work with alumni and friends to provide support for scholarships, professorships, facilities improvements, equipment and technology purchases, research funds, and other forms of support for the UI.
