UI Libraries and Alumni Association offer Davenport session about health Web sites

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Anyone interested in learning more about how to find health information on the World Wide Web is invited to a free public program Thursday, June 25 at the River Center, 136 East 3rd St., in Davenport, sponsored by the Friends of the University of Iowa Libraries and the UI Alumni Association.

The program, "The Web Doctor: Health Sciences and the Web," will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jim Duncan, head of the Information Commons at the UI Hardin Library for the Health Sciences will lead the presentation.

"The Web Doctor" will provide participants with an overview of the Web and will demonstrate ways in which the average person can make use of this expanding resource. The session is designed to be of interest to both beginning and experienced Web users and will cover basic methods of gaining access to the Web and how to use it to search for health-related information.

Duncan also will feature a number of high-quality health education and consumer health Web sites. The presentation will conclude with a question and answer period.

Registration will start at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:15 p.m. The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
