Tracy named assistant dean in College of Medicine

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Roger Tracy has been named assistant dean of the College of Medicine. The announcement was made by Dr. Robert P. Kelch, dean of the college. Tracy will continue as director of the college's Office of Statewide Clinical Education Programs.

"Roger's efforts to ensure that our medical students receive top-quality, hands-on training with community physicians across the state have meant a great deal to our efforts to educate primary care physicians," Kelch says.

Tracy joined the College of Medicine in 1969 as director of project development and director of community services for the Iowa Regional Medical Program. In 1974 he was named director of the Office of Community-Based Programs, which became the Office of Statewide Clinical Education Programs in 1997.

Under Tracy's leadership the office has established a statewide network of physicians who serve as preceptors, helping train medical students in real-world situations. The office also maintains one of the nation's most comprehensive databases of physicians, one purpose of which is to help Iowa communities attract and retain physicians.

In addition, the office offers an array of programs designed to help physicians and communities establish and develop practices.
