UI Alumni Association names new officers and members of board of directors

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Alumni Association has named the 1998-99 officers for its board of directors and elected four new members to the board. The 38-member board oversees the programs and activities of the UI Alumni Association, which works to keep its 47,000 members in touch with the UI and each other.

The new president of the board is Joel T. S. Greer, who earned his bachelor's degree from the UI in 1975 and is a 1978 graduate of the UI College of Law. He is currently a partner in the Marshalltown law firm Cartwright, Druker and Ryden. Greer succeeds Willard L. Boyd III as president of the board.

Amy O'Deen of Swisher has been named president-elect. O'Deen received a master's degree from the UI in 1983. She is senior assistant director of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) and administrator of Children's Hospital of Iowa.

Joining the board are:

-- Donald R. "Skip" Wells, a 1968 graduate of the UI College of Business Administration. Wells is assistant vice president of the UI Community Credit Union and has been president of the Johnson County Iowa Club and the Iowa City Jaycees. Since 1996 he has also served on the Iowa City Community Housing Commission. He represents the Board in Control of Athletics on the Alumni Association's board.

-- Dale E. Baker, a 1968 graduate of the UI College of Business Administration. President of the Indianapolis firm Baker Healthcare Consulting, Inc., Baker is also a certified public accountant and a legislative lobbyist for Medicare client concerns. He represents the College of Business Administration on the board.

-- Jude P. West, a 1969 doctoral graduate of the UI College of Education. An associate professor at the UI College of Business Administration, he is also director of the college's Center for Organizational Effectiveness. Currently president of the board of Systems Unlimited, Inc., of Iowa City, West was also president of the board of Goodwill Industries of Southeast Iowa from 1970-72. He represents UI faculty on the board.

-- Julianne H. Thomas, assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at UIHC for the past 24 years. A physician with Pediatric Center in Cedar Rapids, Thomas has also been chief of pediatrics at both Mercy and St Luke's Hospitals in Cedar Rapids. Thomas completed her residency at the UI in 1974. She represents UIHC residents and fellows on the board.
