UI CAMPUS NOTES -- IOWA CENTER FOR THE ARTS
WATERCOLORS EXHIBITION JULY 12 -- The University of Iowa Museum of Art
will exhibit a selection of 19th- and 20th-century watercolors from the
museum's permanent collection from July 12 to Sept. 13 in the Paper Gallery.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge.
Since watercolors have been a popular choice for artists of all styles
for the past two centuries, the exhibition will feature works from a diverse
assemblage of painters. Included in the exhibition will be works by Maurice
Prendergast, Lyonel Feininger, Reginald Marsh, Alexander Calder, Sam Francis
and Mark Tobey.
The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City,
is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in two UI parking
lots on Riverside Drive, one across from the museum and the other directly
north of the museum.

BECKER READS JULY 23-- Fiction writer Leslee Becker, a graduate of the
University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, will read from her short-story collection
"The Sincere Cafe" (Mid-List Press, 1996) at 8 p.m. Thursday,
July 23, in Prairie Lights Books at 15 S. Dubuque Street in downtown Iowa
Becker's stories have appeared in the Atlantic, the Iowa Review, the
Gettysburg Review, Ploughshares, Nimrod, the Sonora Review and other publications.
She is a recipient of the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society Award, the Nimrod/Katherine
Ann Porter Fiction Prize, a James Michener Fellowship from the UI and a
Wallace Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University. She has taught at the
UI and Stanford, and she is currently on the faculty of Colorado State
