UI Campus Programs assistant director wins national award for dissertation

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Tracy L. Davis, assistant director in the University of Iowa's Office of Campus Programs and Student Activities, has won a major award in his field for a doctoral dissertation on influencing attitudes toward date rape that he wrote while a student at the UI College of Education.

Davis, a 1997 graduate, will be presented with the Melvene D. Hardee Dissertation of the Year Award from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators at the organization's annual meeting March 10 in Philadelphia.

His dissertation, "The Effectiveness of a Sex Role Socialization-Focused Date Rape Prevention Program in Reducing Rape-Supportive Attitudes in College Fraternity Men," was a study of ways to change the attitudes about date rape among men in the Greek system.

Davis received his doctorate in Student Development in Postsecondary Education from the Division of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development in the College of Education.

Richard Dustin, professor and chair, and Deb Liddell, assistant professor, both of the Division of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development, directed the dissertation.
