UI Press publishes new collection of award-winning author Abbott

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A new collection of short stories by the award-winning authorLee K. Abbott has been published by the University of Iowa Press.

"Wet Places at Noon" is a collection of eight stories cited for their ability to capture the lives and relationships of men struggling to make sense of the world they find themselves in.

Kirkus Reviews (September 1997) called Abbott "a writer with one of the most distinctive voices in American fiction."

"Too rich, perhaps, for some tastes, but fiction with a vigor, intelligence, and rueful wit sorely lacking from the work of many of Abbott's contemporaries," Kirkus says.

"Wet Places at Noon" is Abbott's sixth collection of short stories. His work has been reprinted in "The Best American Short Stories," "The Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards" and "The Pushcart Prizes."

He has won the National Magazine Award for Fiction, the St. Lawrence Prize of Fiction and the "StoryQuarterly" Award for Fiction, among others.

"Wet Places at Noon" is available at bookstores nationwide for $22.95 clothbound. The book can also be ordered from the UI Press by calling (319) 384-3808 (for calls within Johnson County) or 1-800-235-2665 (outside Johnson County).
