Iowa Playwrights Festival and Iowa Summer Rep auditions are March 7-8 at the UI

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa department of theatre arts will hold auditions for Iowa Summer Rep '98 6-10 p.m. Saturday, March 7. Auditions for the Iowa Playwrights Festival will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8. All auditions will be in the UI Theatre Building.

Auditioners should sign up for audition times on the callboard in the UI Theatre Building after March 2. To sign up for a time by phone or to receive further information, call the Theatre Department Main Office at 319-335-2700.

Iowa Summer Rep auditions are open to anyone who has a funny bone for its productions of three popular comedies. Summer Rep performance dates are June 24-July 25. The age range of the characters is 18-50. Auditioners should come prepared with a modern comic monologue and be prepared to read.

The Iowa Playwrights Festival will present five mainstage plays, two workshop plays and eight cameo readings during its 1998 repertory of plays by students in the Iowa Playwrights Workshop. Festival dates are May 4-9.

Persons of all ages and types are urged to audition for the festival productions. Auditioners should come prepared with either one or two monologues from the festival play in which they are most interested, or they should be prepared to read from one of the plays.

Iowa Playwrights Festival scripts are available for review in the department of theatre arts main office in the Theatre Building.
