UI Dance Marathon, KRNA plan 28-hour Rock-A-Thon
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- On Dec. 10-11 the University of Iowa Dance Marathon
and its radio sponsor, KRNA, will be holding a 28-hour Rock-A-Thon to raise
money for children with cancer.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, KRNA's Morning Rock Jocks --
Kevin "The RedDog" Redding, Mike "Captain Winkey" Dwyer,
and Jessica Dol -- will begin a 28-hour rock marathon broadcasting from
KRNA's Iowa City station as well as several two-hour, live remotes sponsored
by various businesses. Hourly sponsorships will also add to the event,
which will conclude at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
Listeners are invited to participate in "You Pay, We Play."
For a donation of $20, KRNA will play requests. All proceeds go to Dance
Marathon, a student-run philanthropy established with the mission of aiding
the Children's Hospital of Iowa at the UI Hospitals and Clinics in their
fight to enhance the lives of children and families facing childhood cancer.
Throughout the 28 hours of KRNA's Rock-A-Thon, Dance Marathon families,
nurses, executive council members, morale team members, and dancers will
all be on hand to support the KRNA staff. Interviews will also take place
over the course of the marathon. At 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, Dance Marathon
volunteers will be on hand at the KRNA station to perform the "morale
dance" to kick off the event. All cameras are welcome at that time.
