Women's Resource and Action Center seeks volunteers
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Women's Resource and Action
Center (WRAC) is seeking volunteers. Training begins the second week in
September for support group facilitators, information and referral advocates,
and KidsCare workers. Additional volunteer opportunities exist at the Women's
Center, including serving on various planning committees.
This fall the Women's Center is adding another opportunity for volunteering
through a program called Iowa Women Initiating Social Change. This program
is designed to train participants in three facets of social change: direct
action organizing, educational campaigns, and electoral political work.
It will guide participants through implementing change using the skills
acquired in the training.
Suzi Steffen, a longtime volunteer, views her experience at the Women's
Center as positive in several ways: "Volunteering not only provides
a sense of community for me, it also has given me skills that are applicable
in a professional work environment."
For more information and to register for training, call the Women's
Resource and Action Center at (319) 335-1486.
