UI Public Safety officers complete training through Iowa Law Enforcement
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Five employees of the University of Iowa department
of public safety have recently completed training through the Iowa Law
Enforcement Academy in Des Moines.
Officers Katherine Trotter and Peter Berkson graduated from the Academy
in June. Officers Brad Allison and Robert Burdess completed their training
in November of 1997, and Officer Brian Meyer completed his training in
June of 1997.
The Law Enforcement Academy training is a 12-week program that includes
instruction in procedures related to arrests, criminal investigations,
search and seizure, traffic control, use of force, and dealing with drunken
drivers. All law enforcement officers in the State of Iowa are required
to complete the training program before they can assume their duties on
a permanent basis.
In addition to the Academy's training program, all five officers also
completed a four-month field officer training program required by the UI
department of public safety.
