Patients with cochlear implants to meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Patients who have received cochlear implants for the treatment of hearing loss will attend a picnic at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.

The cochlear implant team will host the picnic. Team members expect that approximately 100 patients and their families will attend. The picnic provides team members an opportunity to express their appreciation for the patients' participation in research studies that are advancing cochlear implant technology.

Cochlear implants enable patients with profound hearing loss to hear sound. The UI is one of the world's leading medical centers in using cochlear implants to treat hearing loss. Since cochlear implants were introduced in 1982, more than 350 children and adults have been treated with the devices at the UIHC. If you wish to cover this event, enter the hospital through the main entrance and follow the directional signs to the picnic location.
