UI's Oakdale Research Park acquires new tenant

CORALVILLE, Iowa -- Another tenant, a software development group, is coming to the University of Iowa's Oakdale Research Park.

The Iowa System for Institutional Advancement, Inc. announced today (Monday, Aug. 3) that it has leased 5,400 square feet of space from Myriad Developers, L.C. in the Myriad Technology Plaza at 2658 Crosspark Road. The Iowa System will occupy half of a new office building in the privately owned "planned unit development."

Tim R. Kuhns, The Iowa System president and chief executive officer, said several factors led him to contact the Oakdale Research Park staff in late February.

"First of all, we wanted to remain in the Iowa City/Coralville area and preserve our close ties to the university, so the UI Oakdale Research Park was a logical choice. It was also very important that the Myriad Technology Plaza already had the space we required for expansion, and our staff really liked the 'research park' setting close to technology companies," said Kuhns.

He said the Oakdale location in the Highway 965 corridor is another advantage, since The Iowa System recruits employees from both Iowa City/Coralville and Cedar Rapids/Marion.

Kuhns said that The Iowa System will move to Oakdale this fall.

The Iowa System is a wholly owned affiliate of the University of Iowa Foundation. Chartered as a not-for-profit corporation in 1989, it is a leading developer of comprehensive software for fund-raising organizations nationwide. The Iowa System's product, ASCEND, combines biographical and financial systems into a single relational database tool.

Now located at 320 S. Linn Street in Iowa City, The Iowa System has about 20 employees.

Pat Murphy, Myriad Developers manager, said he is actively working in cooperation with the Park staff to identify corporate tenants for the remaining available space and future expansion of the Myriad complex.

"We're quite pleased to have The Iowa System choose the Myriad Technology Plaza. The group is a good fit with our excellent present tenants," said Murphy.

W. Bruce Wheaton, director of the UI Oakdale Research Park, said the addition of The Iowa System is in keeping with the Park's mission, which is to encourage interaction between business and the University of Iowa.
