UIHC sponsors seminar on today's behavioral health issues and therapies
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Members of the community are invited to a free seminar
discussing behavioral health issues such as attention deficit disorder
in children, substance abuse in adolescents, and depression in older adults.
The seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 and is sponsored by University
of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) as part of its centennial celebration.
Health for Your Lifetime: Caught in Middle: Stress and the '90s is the
third in a series of educational seminars planned this year. The free session
is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn, 1220 First Ave, Coralville.
The seminar will feature three University of Iowa physicians: Gary Gaffney,
M.D., Jill Liesveld, M.D., and Robert Robinson, M.D., Ph.D.
Gaffney, associate professor of child and adolescent psychiatry in the
department of psychiatry, will focus on the basic symptoms of attention
deficit disorder and strategies for treatment.
Liesveld, director of chemical dependency services and assistant professor
in the department of psychiatry, will explain the problems associated with
adolescent substance abuse.
Robinson, professor and head of the department of psychiatry, will discuss
new discoveries that have been made in geriatric depression.
