'Garden' issue of UI International Writing Program's 100 Words is now in flower

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa International Writing Program (IWP) announces the blooming of the "Garden" issue of 100 Words, the program's literary journal. The issue features prose and poetry works of 100 words or fewer in response to the word "garden."

The IWP created 100 Words in 1993. Each issue is comprised of responses to a single "trigger word."

Contributors of writing to "Garden" come from Bangladesh, India, the Czech Republic, Albania, Sri Lanka, France, Belgium, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Art work was provided by Miriam Clark Potter, Jennifer Hobbs, Judi Heller, Hope Nealson, Deborah Bruce and Natalie Brown.

100 Words has subscribers throughout the United States and around the world. Copies may be obtained from the IWP, fourth floor, English-Philosophy Building, the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242.

Copies also may be purchased for $3 at several Iowa City-area book stores: Prairie Lights Books, the Murphy-Brookfield Bookstore and the Haunted Bookshop.

IWP writers interact, formally and informally, with each other and with the many poets, fiction writers, playwrights and translators at the UI and in Iowa City. Over the years more than 1,100 writers from more than 110 countries have completed residencies in the program.
