Old Capitol volunteers honored

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Some 50 volunteers who serve at the Old Capitol Museum were honored at the twenty-second annual recognition reception April 22.

Recognition for their continuing support and faithful service to Old Capitol was given to Phyllis Evans for contributing more than 2,500 hours and Vilda Sutherlin for contributing more than 1,500 hours.

Past recipient of the 2,500 award is Miriam Canter. Those contributing more than 1,500 hours are Helen Ford, Trudy Riley, Alice Sutton and Doris White and more than 1,000 hours are Helen Phelan and Nancy Powers. Included on the Roll of Honor with more than 500 volunteer hours are Judy Brookhaus, Lucile Floyd, Ilene Greenwood, Jane Huit, Irene Kortanek and Pauline Wright.

Maxine Miller received the 200 hour pin, and 100 hour pins were awarded to Roy Justis, Wade Pfau, Asiya Malik, and Julie Norton.

Volunteers have contributed more than 80,000 hours in welcoming more than 650,000 visitors since the museum opened in 1976.
