Participants invited to join UI studies of new antidepressants

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Men and women age 18 and older who experience the symptoms of depression are invited to participate in one of two University of Iowa College of Medicine studies of new investigational antidepressants.

The key symptoms of depression include feeling "down" or depressed, difficulty sleeping, eating too much or too little, feeling tired or not having enough energy, and low self-esteem and not being able to enjoy oneself.

Dr. William Coryell, a UI professor of psychiatry who studies the treatment of depression, is the senior investigator for these clinical trials.

Persons who are feeling depressed and are not on medication, as well as those who are currently taking an antidepressant medication, may qualify for one of the studies.

For more information, call the UI department of psychiatry at 1-888-850-8531.
