Local UI medical student accepted for specialty training

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- (Name of student), a University of Iowa medical student from (hometown), will begin specialty training in (specialty) this year after receiving the doctor of medicine degree from the UI College of Medicine in May.

(Name) will enter a medical residency program in (specialty) at (institution and location) after a year of (preliminary specialty) at (preliminary institution and location).

After earning their M.D. degrees, new physicians typically spend three to five years training in the specialties of their choice, sometimes after a preliminary year of experience in general medicine or surgery. The National Residency Matching Program helps most medical students secure places in these training programs.

(Name) was one of 168 graduating UI medical students who learned March 18 where they will spend their residencies.
