Support group for Daughters Without Mothers meets weekly
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Daughters Without Mothers, a support group for women
who have lost their mothers to death, will continue meeting each Tuesday
through April and May and welcomes new participants.
The support group, sponsored by the University of Iowa Women's Resource
and Action Center, meets each Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Old Brick,
20 E. Market St., Iowa City.
The group has been meeting for the past six months but will change its
focus April and May, says Cynthia Kay, group facilitator. The new focus
will be on activities that facilitate the grieving and growth process.
"We will continue our group discussions, but we will also work through
various books and make collages to explore ourselves after the death of
our mothers," Kay said.
Kay, who lost her mother a year ago, began the support group "because
it is important for women who have lost their mothers to death to know
that they are not alone and have a safe place to share and grow."
Parking is available in the lot just west of Old Brick. Interested
women are encouraged to drop in any time. For more information, call the
Women's Center at (319) 335-1486.
