Award to aid UI researcher's work with people who stutter

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Dr. Patricia Zebrowski, University of Iowa associate professor of speech pathology and audiology, has received a $10,000 award from the Malcolm Fraser Foundation to benefit individuals who stutter through either clinical programs or research.

Tentative plans for the award include the development of a dedicated therapy room for people who stutter at the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic and the initiation of an intensive stuttering therapy program for teenagers.

Malcolm Fraser was a prominent businessman who was challenged by a lifelong stuttering problem. He founded the Stuttering Foundation of America in 1947, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing training and literature for people who stutter and the speech-language pathologists who work with them.
