IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa High School Press Association (IHSPA) will celebrate "Homegrown Hawkeyes" at its 1997 fall conference Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the University of Iowa in the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU).

The theme of the conference, "Homegrown Hawkeyes," was selected to pay tribute to the excellence of Iowa's "homegrown" resources, said Ann Visser, IHSPA president.

Heisman Trophy hopeful Tim Dwight of the UI football team and a graduate of City High School in Iowa City, and Iowa High School Journalism Teacher of the Year Merle Dieleman of Pleasant Valley High School are keynote speakers. Workshop presenters include expert university and high school journalism teachers, media and publications professionals.

Along with workshops and speakers, student photo, writing, and yearbook awards will be presented. The awards ceremony will include a slide show featuring the May Day Shoot-Off entries.

Faculty members accompanying students to the conference are admitted at no charge.
