Iowa Center for the Arts Package offers discount on variety of events

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Several units of the Iowa Center for the Arts at the University of Iowa -- University Theatres, UI Opera Theatre, the UI Dance Company and the UI Museum of Art -- have collaborated this season to offer a special discounted series package. The Iowa Center for the Arts Package provides the opportunity to save money while sampling the variety offered by the Iowa Center for the Arts.

The conceptual focus for the Iowa Center for the Arts Package is an event that could not be discounted, because it's already free -- next spring's "Victorian Fairy Paintings" exhibition, making its only U.S. appearance at the UI Museum of Art after opening in London.

But the savings for the other events in the series are substantial: the University Theatres productions of Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia" and Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in E.C. Mabie Theatre of the Theatre Building; the UI Opera Theatre spring production of "Romeo and Juliet" in the newly remodeled Clapp Recital Hall; and the UI Dance Company's November 14-15 "Departures/Dance Gala '97" in Hancher Auditorium.

The Iowa Center for the Arts Package is available through Nov. 15, the final performance date of the Dance Gala.

The discounted package prices are $42 and $40. The prices for UI students and senior citizens are $25.50 and $23.50, and young people 17 and younger may purchase a package for $22.50 or $21.50. The Iowa Center for the Arts Package is available from the Hancher box office.

Hancher box office hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 p.m. Sunday. From the local calling area or outside Iowa, dial (319) 335-1160.
